Welcome to GroupKit!

GroupKit is a Tcl/Tk library that makes it easy to prototype and build real-time collaborative applications (groupware), such as multi-user drawing tools, text editors, meeting tools, and much more.

It's baaaaaacckkk!!!!!!

After a rather long hiatus, development has been restarted. GroupKit is now making its home on SourceForge, so should be more open to community contributions. While the first new release is mostly just brushing off the dust and bringing it up to date with modern Tcl/Tk versions, we've got some ideas for deeper changes in the works for later.

For those who are interested, here is a brief history.

Current Release

The current 5.2.0 release (March, 2003), available in the downloads area, will run with the latest Tcl/Tk 8.4.2 releases.

For Unix/X11 platforms (e.g. Linux), obtain a recent Tcl/Tk source distribution, grab our provided tarball (or check it out of CVS), and compile as usual. This will also work just fine with Mac OS X, using Apple's X11 (a native Aqua port will be done later).

For Windows, the easiest way to get going is to first install ActiveTcl, and then run the provided installer to install GroupKit on top of that. You can also build from source (e.g. via CVS) using the freely available Mingw32/msys setup.

Contributing

The latest GroupKit incarnations are being driven by Chad Thatcher and Mark Roseman. If you'd like to help out, please visit the GroupKit SourceForge project, and please join the groupkit-users mailing list.
